As a diagnosic tool Magnetic
Resonace Imaging has long
been used in the human medicine.
It is now available to the
veterinary profession.
What is involved?
Your pet will initially be admitted to the clinic for a full physical examination prior to the MRI scan. In order to maintain the positioning during the scan your pet will require a general anaesthetic. Where necessary pre-anaethestic blood samples can be taken for analysis in our in house laboratory. Once positioned on the scanning table the process of obtaining the required images takes between 30 and 60 minutes. There are no side effects from an MRI scan and the proceedure is completely harmless. Please alert us to any metallic implants which may been present in your pet prior to the scan. Once recovered from the anaesthetic you will be able to collect your pet, usually on the same day.
